Built by Miguel de Segarte, alderman of the city of Trinidad, in the second half of the 18th century, with Creole tiles and stone on posts, it was registered in 1770. The house is inherited by his son, the city priest Andres Segarte, who placed the cross that it has on its facade. In front of the house, in the middle of the street, the ceremonies of the Lenten stays were held.
Due to its social and architectural value, it became an icon of the city of Trinidad, which is why the Cuban State and the Banco Nacional de Cuba decided to capture its façade in the 5-cent CUC coin that circulated in the country as the second official currency until last 2020. After three centuries, despite the restorations, the house has maintained its structure both on the façade and in the interiors.
